Vintage Stratton Powder Compact, White Enamel Watercolour Floral Bouquet Lid, Scalloped Gold-Tone Frame, New Old Stock, As-Found Condition
Description
A bouquet made to travel.
A watercolour floral bouquet fills the white enamel lid of this Stratton powder compact, rendered in the soft, impressionistic style that defined Stratton's most collectable painted panels. Peach and coral cosmos occupy the centre, flanked by soft pink roses, white daisies with yellow centres, and sprays of blue forget-me-nots, the whole composition gathered at its base with a warm caramel ribbon bow. The painting is luminous against the white ground, with the quality and detail of a miniature rather than a mass-produced decoration.
The panel is set within a scalloped cartouche of gold-tone metal, the shaped rim giving the compact a graceful, almost porcelain quality. The reverse is plain brushed gold-tone with fine concentric engine-turning.
Inside, the Stratton-branded puff is present and the powder well is clean. A factory quality control label reading "Inspected by FM H" remains in place, confirming this compact was produced but never reached retail: new old stock in the truest sense. The piece has sustained damage across both the interior and exterior during storage, the full extent of which is clearly documented in the photographs. Priced accordingly.
