Description

Where time is passed in fairy company, even the smallest frame can hold another world.

This miniature wall decoration gathers dark fairy silhouettes against a pale ground. A winged figure reaches towards a drifting cluster of tiny shapes, while smaller figures and curling botanical details fill the scene below. The fine linework and bold silhouettes give it the atmosphere of an illustrated story glimpsed between the pages of an old book.

The surviving reverse label identifies the design as “PASSING TIME” from “THE ENCHANTED SERIES”, a silhouette by Marcelle D. Shears, from the miniature world of Peter Bates Ltd., Titchfield, Hants. This is a framed decorative rendition of the credited design; no claim is made that it is an original hand-cut silhouette or an original drawing.

The Particulars

  • Labelled company: Peter Bates Ltd., Titchfield, Hants.

The photographs show light marks and scattered specks across the pale scene and reflective front, with rubbing and uneven colour to the gold-tone frame. The brown backing has surface wear, while the paper label shows age-related discolouration. Reflections partly obscure the front in the wider photograph, so please study the close-ups for the visible finish.

A small enchanted scene for a collected wall, a reading corner, or a room that leaves a little space for folklore. Photographic books and props are not included. Carefully nestled in its treasure coffin, a vault relic from Vaen’kai Vault.
