Description

Two names and a November date, kept close to the wrist long after the moment itself has passed.

This vintage silver bangle carries a personal dedication inside, appearing to read “TO JOAN FROM JACK NOV. 1954”. The names and date give it a history of its own, without revealing who Joan and Jack were or the occasion behind the inscription. No relationship or gifting story is assumed.

Outside, an engraved floral spray winds across one half of the bangle, with curling foliage, fine hatched detail, and dotted borders. The opposite half is plain and reflective. Its hinged construction opens at a tongue-style fastening, with an attached safety chain linking the two sides.

The interior hallmark group shows an anchor-shaped punch and a lion passant, supporting Birmingham-assayed sterling silver. Existing research tentatively reads the date letter as D and associates it with 1953; that precise year remains unconfirmed pending closer comparison of the letter and shield. The sponsor mark appears to read NCR&Co, but no company identity is assigned. November 1954 is the inscription date, not a claim of manufacture in that month.

The Particulars

  • Metal: Sterling silver, supported by the photographed lion passant
  • Assay attribution: Birmingham, from the anchor-shaped mark
  • Manufacture date: Existing notes suggest 1953; date-letter identification remains tentative
  • Dedication: Appears to read “TO JOAN FROM JACK NOV. 1954”
  • Sponsor mark: Appears NCR&Co; company attribution unverified
  • Form: Hinged opening bangle, not an adjustable open cuff
  • Decoration: Engraved flowers and scrolling foliage on one half, plain reverse half
  • Fastening: Tongue-style closure with attached safety chain
  • Condition: Vintage surface scratches, rubbing, and darker marks around interior edges and fittings
  • Included: Bangle with attached safety chain; photographic props excluded

Close-ups show surface scratches and small marks across the plain interior and exterior, with rubbing to the rims and engraved decoration. Darkened areas and an uneven surface line are visible along parts of the inner edge, particularly beneath the inscription. The hinge and fastening also show wear and localised discolouration. Their cause and any past repair history have not been established.

The bangle is photographed open and closed, with its safety chain present. Clasp holding strength, hinge security, and chain integrity have not been independently tested. No wrist size or measurements are inferred from the photographs.

A floral wrist relic carrying a fragment of someone else’s November, ready for a keeper who values the human traces an old jewel can hold. Carefully nestled in its treasure coffin, a vault relic from Vaen’kai Vault.
