Tallent Gold-Plated Crocodile-Effect Leather Cigarette Case, Made in England, Amber Cognac Embossed Leather Exterior, Pristine Gold-Plated Interior, Mid-20th Century
Description
Tallent. Made in England. The outside has lived. The inside has not.
A Tallent gold-plated cigarette case in crocodile-effect embossed leather: a flat rectangular form with chamfered corners, the exterior covered in amber-cognac leather embossed in a large-scale crocodile pattern, the gold-plated metal frame running the full perimeter with a central bar snap-closure mechanism. The case is a proper mid-20th century English pocket object, built to be carried daily and used.
The exterior shows honest age wear at the corners: the embossed leather covering is compressed and darkened at the corner tips, the stress points of a carried case, exactly as expected and fully documented in the photographs. The leather face between the corners remains intact and the scale pattern is clear and well-defined throughout.
Open the case and the story changes entirely. The interior is gold-plated and in exceptional condition: bright, even, no rubbing or wear to the plating surface. The cross-hatched engine-turned central band with plain polished borders is crisp. The Tallent maker's stamp — Tallent, Made in England — is embossed clearly to the interior lower edge. The bar snap mechanism operates cleanly and closes firmly.
Tallent was a well-regarded British manufacturer of mid-century accessories, known for gold-plated pocket goods, engine-turned cases, and quality leather-covered vanity and smoking accessories produced in England.
