The pentacle is one of the oldest protective symbols in continuous use: a five-pointed star, point upward, enclosed within a circle. The upright orientation is the orientation of elemental balance, the five points representing earth, air, fire, water, and spirit contained within the boundary of the circle. It appears in Celtic tradition, in Wiccan and druidic practice, in green witch and folk magic, and in a broader Western esoteric lineage that stretches back to antiquity. The symbol is not neutral, and the right buyer will not need it explained.

What distinguishes this pendant is the border. Rather than a plain circular frame, the circumference is formed by an interlaced Celtic knotwork pattern: rounded silver cords weaving continuously over and under each other around the full circumference, the knot unbroken. The knotwork is cast with genuine depth, the cords raised and rounded rather than flat, and the oxidised finish, darkening the recesses between the cords to near-black while leaving the raised surfaces brighter, makes the weave read with extraordinary clarity in light. The pentagram star at the centre carries the same oxidised treatment, the arms darker in the valleys, brighter on their faces.

The pendant is cast sterling silver, stamped 925 on the reverse of one star arm. The chain is a fine snake chain with a bolt ring clasp and jump ring connectors.
