All-over fine wavy horizontal engine-turning covers both faces of this substantial Aristocrat cigarette case, the undulating pattern giving the silver plate a softer, more organic texture than the typical straight crosshatch of its contemporaries. A plain rectangular cartouche is set to one face, engraved with a bold stacked monogram: G over S over C, in confident serif script, the initials of the original owner cut cleanly into the reserved ground.
The case is marked to the interior rim in two places: to the top, HEPNS B Made in England, confirming Hard Electroplated Nickel Silver construction, a quality grade of British silver plate above standard EPNS, with a batch mark alongside. To the bottom rim, Aristocrat. The same maker's name is stamped to the spine edge. The Aristocrat name was used for quality mid-century British silverplate accessories, and the HEPNS designation signals a piece made to last.
The interior opens to two compartments with a gold-tone elasticated retainer strap. The amber lining is present throughout, heavily foxed and stained with age, with lifting to the right half. Overall wear to the silver plate is present to the exterior, with areas of plating loss consistent with regular use over many decades.
