Description

Golden ribbons weave around pockets of black, a small sunburst with a shadow between every strand.

This vintage Kigu powder compact carries an interlaced radial design across its round lid. Fine ribbed gold-tone bands curve out from a plain circular centre, crossing around black enamel diamond-like shapes to create a woven effect. The diamonds belong to the decoration, not the case silhouette, which is circular.

The patterned reverse catches the light in radiating geometric texture. Inside, a mirror faces a decorated hinged inner powder cover, with the circular powder compartment beneath. The seller records this example as new old stock with signs of age, offered as compact only.

The Particulars

  • Maker: Kigu, as identified in the seller’s notes
  • Type: Round powder compact with mirror and hinged inner powder cover
  • Lid design: Interlaced ribbed gold-tone bands and black enamel diamond-like motifs
  • Reverse: Radiating geometric texture
  • Metal finish: Gold-tone; exact composition unconfirmed
  • Usage: New old stock, as recorded by the seller
  • Condition: Visible age-related surface wear and localised loss to the black enamel decoration
  • Included: Compact only

The close-ups show small chips and rubbed areas along several black enamel edges, with tiny lighter gaps interrupting the dark shapes. Fine scratches and marks are visible on the gold-tone surfaces, together with localised discolouration and finish wear around the hinge and inner rim. Small specks are visible in the pale powder-compartment area. Please study the photographs carefully; unused stock can still show the effects of time in storage and is not described here as pristine. No precise date or specific Art Deco-era attribution is claimed.

A graphic black-and-gold vanity relic for a keeper drawn to the play of light through ordered pattern. Carefully nestled in its treasure coffin, a vault relic from Vaen’kai Vault.
