Lifted from the most extraordinary corner of the archive, this vintage Japanese damascene musical powder compact is a breathtaking convergence of two ancient crafts — the intricate metalwork of damascene inlay and the delicate mechanics of a musical movement, united in a single vanity object of remarkable ambition.

The lid is worked in the traditional Japanese damascene technique, gold and silver inlaid into a darkened metal ground to create a design of extraordinary precision and depth.
