Vintage German Mauxion Schokolade Brass-Tone Chocolate Box, Classical Putti Relief, Advertising Trinket Casket

The chocolate disappeared. The box was far too dramatic to throw away.

An ornate vintage German promotional chocolate box for Mauxion Schokolade, made in warm brass-tone metal and conceived as lasting packaging rather than a disposable tin. The hinged lid is dominated by a high-relief classical scene: a reclining female figure surrounded by a lively gathering of putti, fruit, vines, and floral abundance, all framed by scrolling foliate borders and raised corner ornaments.

The decoration continues around all four sides in dense relief, with repeating flowers, leaves, scrolls, and fruit. The reverse is comparatively plain, showing the hammered and aged character of the metal, while the interior retains its original raised “MAUXION SCHOKOLADE” advertising plaque beneath the lid. A separate stamped mark is present near one corner of the base.

Made as premium chocolate packaging, the box was designed to survive after its contents were eaten and be reused for jewellery, sewing notions, letters, or other small treasures. It now works beautifully as a decorative trinket casket and as a piece of German confectionery advertising history.

The exact metal composition and production date have not been independently verified, so it is described conservatively as brass-tone embossed metal. The surface has developed a rich, uneven patina with scratches, tarnish, dark residue in the relief, and green verdigris around the inner hinge and corners.
