Description
The grand dining tables of the early 20th century were laden with objects of highly specific, exquisite utility. Yet, when a solid sterling silver master salt cellar is repurposed from the dining room to the gothic study, it transforms from a simple culinary vessel into a striking desk curiosity, perfect for holding small treasures, wax seal beads, or daily rings.
This exquisite artifact features a footed solid silver framework cradling a vibrant, removable cobalt blue glass liner. The delicate, gleaming sterling beautifully frames the deep, moody blue glass, echoing the romantic, vaulted architecture of forgotten manors.
Resting heavily on an antique book or catching the low light of a desk lamp, it is a masterclass in elegant, historical utility.
The Particulars:
- The Artifact: An antique 1913 Birmingham hallmarked sterling silver footed master salt cellar, complete with its vivid cobalt blue glass liner.
- The Details: Showcases an ornate, footed solid sterling silver framework with an elegantly scalloped edge. It features clear English hallmarks including the running lion (sterling), anchor (Birmingham), and the date letter 'o' for 1913 (the maker's mark is present but obscured by time). It houses a striking, removable cobalt blue glass insert originally designed to protect the precious metal from corrosive salt.
- The Curation: Shadow and Silver Collection.
- The State: Excellent antique condition. The cobalt glass liner is deeply colored and structurally sound. The sterling framework displays a beautiful, authentic patina with solid feet that sit perfectly flush.
Arrives carefully wrapped and securely packaged in its own treasure coffin to ensure these luminous curiosities make it safely to your personal vault.
