1904 Antique Silver-Mounted Pocket Wallet, Dark Textured Exterior, Birmingham Hallmarks, LK Mark, Scroll Decoration
Description
Dark texture, curling silver leaves, and a golden interior, a pocket-sized fragment of Edwardian life.
This antique pocket wallet pairs a dark, finely textured exterior with ornate silver mounts. Raised foliate scrolls decorate the front corners, echoed by a shaped metal fitting on the fastening strap. The reverse is more restrained, leaving the textured surface to speak for itself.
The existing hallmark research identifies Birmingham marks with date letter e for 1904, alongside maker or sponsor initials LK. These initials are retained without assigning an unconfirmed maker name. A 925 mark is visible in the close-up photographs of the decorative mount.
Opened, the wallet reveals an ochre-yellow interior, slip storage, a small inner tab, and a metal-framed inner compartment. Its layered construction gives it the character of a period pocketbook rather than a modern card-slot wallet. The exterior has previously been described variously as leather or shagreen; its precise material has not been established and is not offered here as confirmed shagreen.
