Description

A skyline on the outside, a small red secret within.

This rectangular cigarette case carries a raised architectural panel depicting a domed building flanked by slender towers. Cut-out areas reveal a blue-green ground beneath, its uneven surviving colour contrasting with the silver-coloured metal. Fine scored lines and repeated notched borders trace the structure and surrounding foliage.

Inside, engraved flowers and leafy stems spread across both halves. A heart-shaped plaque surrounds a square red inset, a striking detail concealed when the case is closed. A tan retaining band spans the opposite compartment between metal attachments.

The seller identifies this as WWII-era trench art. That period and category are offered as an attribution, not documented provenance. The original draft associated it with prisoners of war or soldiers, but no evidence supplied establishes who made this particular case, where it was made, or its service history. The architectural subject is left unidentified rather than assigned to a specific monument.

The photographs show scratches, scuffs, scattered dark marks, and uneven surface colour across the metal. The blue-green background has conspicuous patchy loss, revealing warmer-coloured areas beneath. The red inset shows surface marks and a pale cloudy patch. Darkening and reddish-brown discolouration are visible around the band attachments and fittings, with fraying near the band’s attachment. These are disclosed as visible wear rather than given an unverified cause.

The case is photographed open and closed; fastening strength, dimensions, and capacity have not been established. Neither precious-metal content nor manufacture from battlefield scrap is claimed. Please inspect the close-ups carefully.

A layered pocket relic for a keeper drawn to architectural ornament, concealed details, and objects whose surviving history leaves room for thoughtful curiosity. Photographic props are not included. Carefully nestled in its treasure coffin, a vault relic from Vaen’kai Vault.
