Vintage Stratton Powder Compact, Gold-Tone Sunburst Engine-Turning, Original Factory Authentication Sticker, Original Slip, Full Mirror, Made in England, Mid-Century
Description
The sticker is still on it.
The small red and white oval on the interior mirror rim reads: REAL ENGINE-TURNED FRONT. Stratton applied this factory authentication sticker to guarantee that the engine-turning on the exterior face was cut by machine into the metal, not pressed or stamped. Finding it intact, still adhered after decades, means one thing: this compact was barely touched after it left the counter. Someone bought it, perhaps used it once or twice, and then it waited.
The exterior face carries Stratton's sunburst engine-turning: bold radiating lines fanning outward from a central point across the entire gold-tone surface, each ray a clean incised line moving from the centre to the rim, creating a solar pattern that catches light from every angle. It is one of the more dramatic patterns in the Stratton range, graphic and immediate. The reverse carries concentric circle engine-turning, tight parallel arcs across the full gold-tone face, the single-barrel hinge flush and tight. The Stratton lady-at-her-mirror trademark cartouche is engraved into the gold-tone interior base, the full logo centred and sharp.
The full-width mirror in the lid is bright and unspotted. The original slip is present. The base section is empty: no puff, no sifter, no outer case.
