Description

Some bracelets are worn. This one is carried.

This is a fully hallmarked sterling silver hinged bangle, made in Birmingham in 1960 by Thomas Hayes Ltd, and it arrives in the Vault in exactly the condition it deserves: excellent, with no dents, no damage, and the engraving as crisp and confident as the day it left the workshop.

The front half of the bangle is covered in deeply chased scrolling acanthus leaf and floral engraving, the kind of hand-worked surface decoration that takes time and skill and shows both. The reverse is left plain and polished, smooth against the wrist. The mechanism is a barrel hinge on one side and a push-button clasp on the other, with the original safety chain still attached and intact, a small but telling detail that speaks to how carefully this piece has been kept over the past sixty-five years.

Hallmarked inside with the lion passant (sterling silver), the Birmingham anchor assay mark, the date letter for 1960, and the maker's mark T H Ltd for Thomas Hayes Ltd.
