Vintage Art Deco Paste Rhinestone Double Dress Clip Duette Brooch, c.1940s, Excellent

Recovered from the most glamorously engineered corner of the archive, this vintage Art Deco double dress clip is a masterpiece of 1940s costume jewellery design that offers two pieces of jewellery in one.

Each rectangular panel is covered in dense pavé paste rhinestones in a silver-tone setting, the stones catching the light with a brilliant, mirror-like flash that belies their costume origins. Diagonal bar detailing cuts across each panel in a bold geometric line, with larger round stones set at the corners adding a focal point to the composition. The two clips interlock to form a single elongated brooch, or separate to be worn independently on a collar, lapel, or neckline — the Duette format, popularised in the 1930s and 1940s, was one of the great innovations of mid-century costume jewellery design. The reverse shows a double-pin fold-over safety clasp construction typical of the period. No hallmarks, consistent with costume jewellery of the era. Offered in excellent vintage condition.
