Tiffany & Co. Sterling Silver Business Card Case, Plain Polished, Hallmarked 925, Dated 1999, 1837 Cartouche, Surface Scratches Noted
Description
Sterling silver. The name on the spine says everything.
A Tiffany & Co. sterling silver business card case in the classic plain polished format: a flat rectangular case in 925 silver, entirely undecorated, the design relying wholly on the quality of the material and the precision of the form. The exterior face carries the maker's stamps: T & CO in script at centre, a lozenge-shaped 925 sterling cartouche to the left, and a rectangular 1837 cartouche to the right — Tiffany's founding year mark, used on their sterling pieces as a provenance and quality identifier. The spine reads © 1999 Tiffany & Co. 925, dating the piece to 1999. The barrel hinge runs the full length of the spine, clean and tight.
This case has been used: both the exterior and interior faces carry fine surface scratches consistent with a card case that has been carried and used in daily life, most visible under direct light. There are no dents, deformations, or structural issues. The scratches are polishable by a silversmith if desired, though many collectors prefer to leave use patina in place on Tiffany pieces.
