Surfaced from the most rarified corner of the archive, this antique sterling silver and hand-painted porcelain perfume bottle is a breathtaking convergence of two Victorian decorative arts, the silversmith's craft and the porcelain painter's art — united in a single, exquisite vanity object.

The cylindrical porcelain body is hand-painted with a trailing botanical composition of deep magenta and burgundy flowers, green leaves, and clusters of blue and amber berries on a crisp white ground, the kind of painterly naturalism that speaks to a skilled hand and a patient eye. The sterling silver screw cap bears a full suite of British hallmarks: the Birmingham anchor, the lion passant confirming sterling silver, and a date letter consistent with the late Victorian or Edwardian period, placing this piece firmly in the window of c.1890–1910. The maker's mark is present but faint, a tantalising detail that invites further research. The cap has some light dings to the top consistent with its age and use, which only add to its character as a genuinely antique object.
