Description

Small enough to follow the curve of a pocket. Carried often enough to show it.

A compact vintage silver-plated cigarette case with a gently curved profile, rounded corners, and mixed engine-turned decoration across both exterior faces. Narrow vertical bands divide fields of fine repeating wave pattern, creating a restrained geometric surface that catches the light despite the case's well-earned wear.

A plain rectangular cartouche is reserved within the decoration and remains blank and unmonogrammed. The interior is finished in warm gilt and retains both yellow elastic cigarette bands. Its smaller scale and curved construction were designed for comfortable pocket carrying, and the surface now records exactly that use.

No maker's mark or metal stamp has been found. The case is therefore described conservatively as unmarked silver plate, with maker, country, and precise date unknown.

The Particulars:

  • Form: Small curved rectangular cigarette case with rounded corners
  • Material: Unmarked silver plate; maker and origin unknown
  • Decoration: Mixed engine-turned vertical stripes and repeating wave-pattern fields
  • Cartouche: Plain rectangular reserve, blank and unmonogrammed
  • Interior: Gilt finish with both yellow elastic retaining bands present
  • Condition: Well-used vintage condition. Extensive surface scratches, dark spotting, edge wear and areas of plating loss are visible. The gilt interior shows wear, marks and discolouration; the retaining bands show age and staining. Please review all photographs carefully before purchasing.

Not pristine. Not pretending. A small pocket object that has already done the job it was made for.

Arrives carefully wrapped as a vault relic.
