An unengraved shield-shaped cartouche sits at the centre of curling foliate decoration, bordered by contrasting stippled and finely lined textures. The scalloped outline belongs to the case itself; the shield is a decorative feature on the lid rather than the overall shape.

The exterior is recorded in the item notes as silver-plated, opening to a warm gold-tone interior with a mirror and hinged powder-retaining ring. A fine linear pattern decorates the reverse, which carries the Stratton, Made in England mark. The branded puff and sifter are shown in the photographs, and the seller’s notes also confirm a slip and box are supplied.

The Particulars

Maker: Stratton

Type: Powder compact with mirror and hinged retaining ring

Exterior finish: Silver-plated, as recorded in the item notes

Interior finish: Gold-tone

Design: Ornate foliate decoration, textured borders, and an unengraved shield cartouche

Form: Scalloped case with finely patterned reverse

Marking: Stratton, Made in England

Usage: New old stock, as confirmed in the seller’s notes

Included: Compact, sifter, puff, slip, and box

New old stock describes its unused status, not an absence of age-related changes.
