Description

ECH on one side. A different pattern on the other. Made in England, carried somewhere else.

A vintage English silver-plated cigarette case with two distinct engine-turned exterior treatments. The monogrammed face is worked in radiating geometric panels that converge toward a polished rectangular cartouche, engraved in ornate script with the initials “ECH.” The reverse carries a tighter all-over repeating wave pattern, giving each side its own texture and character.

The interior is finished in warm gold tone and retains both original yellow elastic cigarette bands. A push-button clasp sits neatly along the edge, while the softly rounded rectangular profile keeps the case slim and pocketable.

The only factory stamp present is “MADE IN ENGLAND.” No maker's mark or precious-metal hallmark has been found, so the case is described as silver plate with maker and precise date unknown.

The case arrived with dark surface residue that initially resembled scratching; careful cleaning removed it and revealed the engine turning beneath. Light remaining age-related marks and small areas of spotting are visible, but the exterior now presents cleanly and the patterned finish remains crisp.

The Particulars:

  • Origin: England; stamped “MADE IN ENGLAND”
  • Material: Silver plate; maker unknown
  • Form: Rectangular hinged cigarette case with rounded corners and push-button clasp
  • Front: Radiating geometric engine turning with polished rectangular cartouche
  • Monogram: Ornate engraved initials “ECH”
  • Reverse: Fine all-over repeating wave-pattern engine turning
  • Interior: Warm gilt-tone finish with both original yellow elastic retaining bands present
  • Condition: Good vintage condition following careful surface cleaning. Engine turning is crisp and the former dark residue has been removed. Light surface wear, small marks and isolated spotting remain consistent with age and use. Please review all photographs carefully before purchasing.
