Vintage Stratton Powder Compact, Silver-Tone Basket Weave Engine-Turning, Gold-Tone Clasp, Original Slip, Puff and Sifter, Full Interior Mirror, Made in England, Mid-Century
Description
The slip. The puff. The sifter. All still here.
A Stratton compact is distinguished first by its engine-turning and second by what comes with it. This one comes with everything except the outer case: the original star-embossed cream fabric slip with the Stratton script logo in silver foil at the centre; the original pink powder puff with the Stratton script logo printed in gold on the face; the original mesh sifter in the base. Three accessories, all original, all present. For a compact without its retail box, that is a complete interior story.
The exterior face carries Stratton's basket weave engine-turning: tight interlocking rectangular blocks, each panel filled with fine parallel line engraving running at alternating angles to create a woven textile effect across the entire silver-tone surface. It is one of the more labour-intensive patterns in the Stratton range, the geometry precise and the depth of the engraving giving the surface a quality that catches light differently in every plane. The push-piece clasp is gold-tone, a deliberate two-tone pairing against the silver face.
The interior of the lid carries the full Stratton trademark cartouche in raised gold: the lady-at-her-mirror logo with Stratton script below, the whole emblem centred on the warm gold-tone interior lining. The full-width mirror is present. The hinge is intact.
